The finished system is the sum of its parts...
Every PAXCOM computer is built using tried and proven, premium components. Most system integrators use what is “cheapest this week” rather than the best components available. Here are some examples from our parts list....
SSD drives are all the rage these days. There are cheap ones and expensive ones. In out opinion, Samsung 850 Pro is the best on the market, so that’s what we use. There are others that are half the price, but they are not designed to withstand the punishment of being at sea.
System memory is another key component. Kingston Hyper X is the premium choice found in every system we build.
Western Digital makes the most rugged platen style hard drives - they just don’t fail - so that’s what we use.
It's not just about quality components, it's also about how they work together...
We have selected Shuttle barebones units primarily for the way they handle cooling. Shuttle was the first to maintain cooling of a hot Pentium 4 in a compact form factor without it overheating. Today CPUs run cooler and don’t draw as much power, but the I.C.E. unit that Shuttle designed is still the best CPU cooer out there and a valuable asset to have on board.
We recommend Intel® fourth-generation Haswell/Haswell Refresh Core™ i3/i5/i7, Pentium®, and Celeron® processors. The Core™ i3/i5/i7 processors are integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4600 support for DirectX 11.1 that are significantly improved CPU or GPU performance. See the spec sheet for complete details of CPU choices.
